Sant Jordi's Day

Sunday, April 24th, 2005, 6:06 p.m.

Otras cosas ...

Me he cortado mi pelo.

Acabo de aprender como se dice "I'm still not over him" y tambien "I'm supposed to go" (Nicole, recuerdas esta conversación?).
"I can't get over him" es "Todavía me queda algo a él." But if you want to say "I can't get over it" ("it" being the break-up) es, "No consigo superarlo."
"I'm supposed to go to this party ... " = "Se supone que iré a esta fiesta ... " Similarly, "I was supposed to go but I didn't" es "Se suponía que iré pero no fui."

A few events before explaining what's up with me. The first is that happily, and impressively only 30 years after Franco, Spain has passed a law legalizing gay marriage AND gay adoption! Actaully - it still has to make it through the Senate, but even if it doesn't Congress is going to pass it as a referendum. Exciting news, don't know if it made any headlines in the States, but Nicole and I are thrilled, and proud of Spain. At least some countries in the world share our values and value human rights? I admire Zapatero, the President of Spain, a lot.

Also, I wanted to correct a comment I made regarding the pope: yes, he was actually a member of the Nazi party, but not like you think. His father was a prominent ANTI-nazi, and the pope, when he was a teenager, had to join the Hitler Youth because it was obligatory, so techinically he was a member, but when he was drafted in the German army, he deserted. OK, he's still a conservative who doesn't believe in the rights of gays, contraception, and a whole host of other things that aren't going to help the world progress, but at least he is NOT - very firmly not - a nazi.

Other things ...

I cut my hair. My friends say I look like Jennifer Anniston from Friends. I like it - it's much shorter and easier to maintain. It pretty much changes my look entirely actually ... an Italian girl said I look more sassy. I actually think I look more chic, but well, there you go. Cultural difference perhaps.

Yesterday was the Day of Saint Jordi, a festival in Catalunya. It used to be the day when men gave women roses, but a long time ago they combined it with the Day of the Book, so now it's a day when women give their boyfriends a book, and men give their girlfriends roses. Nicole and I actually figured out that this is a little unfair - not only is it cooler to receive a book, but it's harder to pick out a book than a rose, AND it's more expensive. Turns out that now in Catalunya a lot of women are demanding both a book AND a rose. :) I would. That is, if I ever ever ever ever ever have a boyfriend.

I gave a book of "Blunders" to Cristiano & Stefano, and it's actually so good that I clipped some stories from it to share with you all. All the stories are true, and they're about stupid or weird people or happenings the world over. They're really good - you'll see becuase I'll post two a day from now on until I run out.

I'm sick again. My mom thinks it might be allergies, but I think that also I'm just really sick. I feel like shit, like really really crappy. It's terrible, and I'm SO not looking forward to work tomorrow. UGH. I feel really horrible, and I'm so sick of being sick.

From "Blunders":

"In Yamamoto, Japan, Etsuya Kobi stole a TV after breaking into a private residence, was caught and sent to jail for a year. Upon release, Mr. Kobi returned to the same residence, stole the same TV, was arrested, tried, and sent back to the same prison cell."

"Charged with setting fire to her hotel bed a woman in Memphis resolutely denied the allegation, claiming that the bed was already on fire when she got into it. The woman was fined $51, but whether for carelessness or stupidity wasn't specified."
